World cereal production in 2007 was 2 114 million tonnes (including rice in milled terms), 5.3 percent up from 2006.
India's position of cereal production is 239.13 million tonnes with the global share of 11.31 per cent. In the world it has been reported that there are 10000 varieties of rice and out of which the maximum number are in India.
